The Grand Canyon has been a destination for millions of adventure seekers and is a dream of many more! In this article, you will read a little more about the Grand Canyon, the trails within, the enormity of it, and you can even weigh in on if this will be a destination in 2024 for Wilderness Wanderers. The “Grand” Canyon certainly earns its name when you start to look at numbers. While the entire canyon is not contained within the massive park, in total it is claimed to be 277 miles in length, 18 miles wide, and 1 mile deep. Add this all up for an outstanding total of over 1,900 square miles! Now wrap your mind around this – it encompasses an area larger than the land area of Rhode Island… It’s hard to visualize right? Now think of hiking vs driving. You can hike ‘rim to rim’ only covering about 21 miles. However, to drive from the South rim to the North rim will take you nearly 5 hours and cover some 220 miles! “Grand” indeed!
